Yuppie Liberation Front is a Bay Area-based collective of like-minded young composers and musicians. Founded in 2018, the band has been playing nightclubs, bars and private events all over Northern California from San Jose to Chico. The lineup features players from San Leandro, Vallejo, Vacaville, and Sonoma.
They play music a variety of jazz styles with a focus on on back-beat groove-oriented feels, influenced by Classic R&B, Latino Soul, Lo-fi Hip Hop, Stretch Music, and Funk.
Band leader and trumpeter Thomas Molina enjoys combining otherwise disparate styles, which has always been a hallmark of jazz, as well as arranging standards and popular music. He encourages his bandmates to bring in their own tunes that they can collaborate on as a team. Their compositional approach refers to Duke Ellington, Monk, Miles, Mingus, and Wayne Shorter, as well as contemporary artists such as Christian Scott, Theo Crocker, Marquis Hill and Keyon Harold.
