“Looking at the career and achievements of Gary Nicholson, it’s a wonder the man has ever gotten a full night’s sleep. The word ‘prolific’ seems paltry when considering his talents and scope.” -Nashville Scene
Gary Nicholson is a number one hit songwriter, a two-time Grammy-winning producer, and international touring musician. In 2006 he was nominated to the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame; in 2011 he was inducted into the Texas Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. There are over five hundred recordings of his songs in various genres including country, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and pop.
Gary has written songs recorded by the greatest artists in blues music from BB King to John Mayall. Over five hundred artists of different musical genres – as varied as George Strait, Robert Plant, and Ringo Starr – have recorded Gary’s songs. In addition to producing Delbert McClinton’s two Grammy-winning records, he produced records for The Judds, Wynonna Judd, Pam Tillis, Billy Joe Shaver, T Graham Brown, Chris Knight, Taylor Hicks, Seth Walker and others. His work has been included in many motion pictures and on television. The song “Falling and Flying” is featured in the Oscar-winning film, “Crazy Heart,” performed by Jeff Bridges. “Peace Dream,” recorded by Ringo Starr, was co-written by Gary, Ringo, and Gary Wright and features Paul McCartney on bass.
As “Whitey Johnson,” the dapper, white-suited Gary Nicholson sings, plays guitar and entertains with a full band.
