It’s the classic tale of boy meets girl, boy falls in love…with that voice.
The boy is Dave Gonzalez, a real-deal guitar hero, record producer and founder of two seminal American roots bands, The Hacienda Brothers and The Paladins. The girl, a one-time heartthrob of the Austin retro country scene, is Susanna Van Tassel. She is no stranger to the honky-tonks of Austin, having recorded two respected country records in 2000 and 2002, while also holding down a weekly show at the revered Broken Spoke.
The two share a love of classic country duets, and their new album, “Think We’re Gonna Be Alright,” reflects that love, with favorites like “I Got You” by Waylon Jennings and Anita Carter, “All of Me Belongs to You” by Merle Haggard and Bonnie Owens, and “Right Combination” from Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton.Gonzalez and Van Tassel will be accompanied by The Branded Men, a California country trio made up of Glen Earl Brown, Jr. (bass and vocals), Dana Burt (drums) and Dave Zirbel (steel guitar).
